#safer
streets
Tell us where and when you feel unsafe, we will use this information to identify hot spots and direct services to promote safety. All information is used in complete confidence.
#weare
listening
The James Brindley Foundation believes that every young person, at risk of entering the criminal justice system, or who is already engaging in criminalised behaviours, is capable of positive change. Some young people feel neglected, labelled and stigmatised by society despite understanding why knife crime is increasing and what needs to be done about it.
We want to provide a platform for these young people to express their views and play their part in ending youth violence.
#lasting
legacy
The main purpose of the #saferstreets campaign is to ensure there are more knife amnesty bins so knives and bladed weapons can be disposed of safely and anonymously, these knife bins are emptied by specialist teams (not the Police) and either ground down to mulch or chopped and recycled.
We would value your feedback as to how these recycled knives could be used in the manufacture of something useful for the community, please follow the link above to give us your ideas and feedback!
What
3Words
What3words is an easy to use software platform designed to provide accurate location information anywhere in the world. The app divides the world into 3m squares and gives each square a unique address which is a combination of three words.
What3words addresses are easy to say and share, and as accurate as GPS coordinates, it is also recognised by emergency services, taxi, food & parcel delivery services.
You can provide us with the what3words of any location you don’t feel safe, using the link above if you don’t already have the app.
We will use what3words to show locations of all our amnesty knife bins across Walsall.

MYTHS v FACTS
Use our Myth buster below to get answers to some very popular misconceptions about Knife Bins.
Knife bins are monitored by the Police
Knife bins are a completely confidential way to dispose of weapons – the Police are NOT watching. Neither are we!
Knife bins are emptied by the Police
All knife bins are emptied by specialist third party contractors who decommission the weapons.
Knives can end up back on the streets
Weapons are put beyond use. There is NO way that they can find their way back into circulation.
Knives are fingerprinted to link with individuals with criminal records
This does not happen. Knives remain completely anonymous for disposal.
Knife bins are insecure and can be broken into to become a source of weapons for crime
Knife bins have been designed specifically to be tamper proof.
No one will use knife amnesty bins
Statistics tell us that they are very well used indeed in all locations that instil confidence of anonymity for users.
