Empowering Young People through Preventative Education
The James Brindley Foundation has collaborated with Peerscroller to create a brand-new video series designed to give young people practical and potentially life-saving knowledge around knife crime and personal safety.
Meaningful prevention starts with engagement. And engagement starts with meeting someone where they are.
Young people are far more likely to absorb important messages when they are delivered in ways that feel relevant, relatable and authentic. By speaking their language, education can become a powerful tool in helping them make safer, more informed decisions.
The James Brindley Foundation and Peerscroller
At JBF, we deliver education, mentoring and awareness programmes to at risk and offending young people, equipping them with the confidence and skills to make positive choices. Through initiatives including the ‘Full Circle’ Programme, we take a preventative approach to tackling the root causes of antisocial behaviour and youth violence.
Alongside this, our dedicated Youth Ambassadors use their voices and experiences to help shape our work, ensuring it continues to reflect the realities and needs of young people today.
Peerscroller, the digital safeguarding and PSHE platform, takes a similar approach. Through short-form, social media-style videos, relatable young presenters deliver trusted, fact-checked messages in a format that feels familiar to Gen A–Z.
Between both of our organisations, there’s a shared understanding of the power of peer influence. Messages land more effectively when they come from someone who genuinely knows what it’s like to be a young person navigating the issues of today.
So, what’s included?
The four-video series explores key topics including:
- The realities behind carrying a knife.
- How and when to contact the emergency services in a crisis.
- What knife bins are and why they exist.
- How everyday items could help save a life
Each video is designed to encourage discussion, challenge harmful misconceptions and help young people think critically about the choices they make.
Education that makes a difference
Prevention starts long before a crisis happens. It starts with awareness, understanding and giving young people the tools to navigate difficult situations.
Resources like this help ensure that important conversations around knife crime are not just reactive, but part of ongoing education that builds confidence, awareness and resilience.
By making these videos available to schools, professionals and young people, the collaboration provides another opportunity to support early intervention and help create safer communities.
