Mission Everest

Please Support David & Sally’s Inspiring Climb for The James Brindley Foundation!

The James Brindley Foundation is thrilled to announce that two of our trustees, David and Sally, accompanied by son in law Scott Dutton, have set themselves an extraordinary challenge this year, the culmination of a determined and challenging personal journey, that started in 2023.

Their pledge, to raise vital funds for The James Brindley Foundation, in our mission to end violent youth offending.

David and Sally are avid walkers and love the outdoors but have never undertaken a challenge of such magnitude before. David is a veteran of the armed forces serving in the Uk and Germany and is today, serving as a paramedic with West Midlands Ambulance Service.

On Friday 25th October, they fly from Birmingham International Airport to Kathmandu, Nepal, for the first leg of their trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. This round trip, which begins and ends in Lukla, covers a total of eighty miles.

Standing at a staggering 29,030 feet at its peak, Everest is renowned for its daunting conditions and demanding terrain. Climbing it requires immense physical and mental strength, rigorous preparation, and unwavering determination.

Base Camp is 17,598 feet above sea level—five and a half times higher than Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England’s Lake District—where oxygen levels are 50% lower than at sea level. Combined with significantly increased water loss due to the dry air, altitude sickness is a real danger that can affect anyone, regardless of their fitness level.

We also have to mention the ‘small matter’ of their plan to cross a huge crevasse en route, using only a basic ladder!!

David and Sally have agreed to share their preparations through our social media channels. From diet and gym training regimes, to climbing more modest peaks such as Ben Nevis, The Penken and Ahorn in Austria and over the Dolomites range into Italy! They will also be vlogging ‘en route’.

In addition to the primary ‘mission’ it is the sincerest wish of David and Sally, Beverley, Charlotte and Mark, that a willing sherpa can be found, to take James’s flag to the summit. What an achievement that would be! “Fly High Jim!!
At the site where James passed away in June 2017, were hundreds of written tributes from his friends and acquaintances, using the words “Fly high Bro”
