It’s been a month since our incredible Mission Everest challenge, we are proud to announce that our dedicated team raised an astonishing £5,248 in support of The James Brindley Foundation and its mission to end violent youth offending. This achievement reflects the generosity of our community and showcases how together, we can make a difference in the fight against youth violence.
Our brave Trustees, David, Sally, and their son-in-law Scott, took on the daunting 80-mile trek to Everest Base Camp, starting and finishing in Lukla. This journey tested their physical and mental endurance but ultimately brought about powerful experiences that they will carry with them forever.
During their adventure, the team reached an impressive altitude of 12,684 feet at Tengboche, where they described the journey as “incredible” yet undeniably challenging. Sally’s mantra throughout the trek – “one foot for James, the other for myself” – served as a guiding light as they pushed through the different terrains.
However, the trek was not without its struggles. Sally faced significant health challenges due to altitude sickness, which resulted in her necessary evacuation to a lower altitude for treatment. David chose to accompany her to the hospital in Lukla, prioritising her recovery. While Sally was unable to take part in the final descent due to altitude effects, her determination and grit throughout the trek were truly commendable.
Despite the setbacks, the trio persevered, overcoming the punishing conditions of the mountains – extreme weather, thin air, and relentless physical demands that tested their resolve. Their efforts culminated in a remarkable achievement, reaching Everest Base Camp!
As we reflect on this journey, we wanted to extend our gratitude to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this trek. The success of the Mission Everest campaign not only highlights our commitment to the cause but also emphasises the power of community in bringing about change.
Though a month has passed since the trek, our mission remains as vital as ever. With the funds raised, we will continue to pursue our goal of creating a safer future.
Thank you once again for your support – we couldn’t have done it without you!
